Combining businesses that consist of a total workforce of 25,000 employees and a turnover of approximately 3.3 billion euros (as of December 2009), the RAG Corporation’s core business is coal mining. Operating four mines in North Rhine-Westphalia and one mine in Saarland, the RAG Corporation contributes to a reliable energy supply in Germany.  

The RAG Corporation implements provisions of the Steinkohlefinanzierungsgesetz (Hard Coal Mining Financing Law) on an entrepreneurial basis. To this end, RAG will be systematically reducing the number of operating coal mines or coal-mining operations as well as the number of employees in a socially acceptable manner by 2018.
